K.FLAY HIGH ENOUGH

Like many American artists, K. Flay followed her pursuit of music to the creative hive of the West Coast, namely San Francisco via Brooklyn via Chicago. However, it’s important to note that K. Flay is not your usual artist and her city-hopping nature may attain to the fact her music cannot be contained, cannot be placed in a neatly define genre box, nevermind one location. Six months ago, K. Flay began to share tracks from her upcoming album, Every Where Is Some Where (due out April 7th, via Night Street/Interscope Records.) First there was the pained, heartbreak grind-rock ‘Blood In The Cut’ and the hip-hop reimagination ‘Dreamers’, among others. Four months back, she revealed ‘Black Wave’, a politically charged stomper switching from dark synths to pop melodies to all-out punk. Now, we have ‘High Enough’, another sonic surprise portraying K. Flay as an artist entirely unafraid of experimentation. This time the San Fran singer-songwriter leads us down a bold pop path with her rap-esque lyrics, cowboy guitars, sparkly synthwork and lo-fi reflections. It’s like Raury meets Flint Eastwood meets Sigrid… maybe, and we say maybe, because K. Flay is evidently in a stream of her own; she’s entirely unpredictable and we love that. - HT
